I told my mother that I didn\u2019t want to play this music anymore because I thought that I was only adding to all that suffering. She replied: \u201cWhat\u2019s got hold of you, you want somebody to pay you for your soul?\u201d I hadn\u2019t thought of that, and when she told me that, it was like I had been re-baptized.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Derrida:<\/strong> Your mother was very clear-headed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Coleman:<\/strong> Yes, she was an intelligent woman. Ever since that day I\u2019ve tried to find a way to avoid feeling guilty for doing something that other people don\u2019t do.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ein sch\u00f6nes Gespr\u00e4ch (<a href=\"http:\/\/itself.wordpress.com\/2010\/09\/17\/derrida-w-ornette-coleman\/\">via<\/a>) zwischen Jacques Derrida und Ornette Coleman \u00fcber Sprache, Improvisation, Wiederholung, Rassismen, Urspr\u00fcnge und M\u00fctter &#8211; was man eben so bespricht unter Dekonstruktionisten. Beeindruckend ist vor allem, dass Derrida tats\u00e4chlich einen ausgezeichneten Interviewer abgibt: Zur\u00fcckhaltend, neugierig und pointiert. Das Gespr\u00e4ch erschien urspr\u00fcnglich 1997 in der franz\u00f6sischen Zeitschrift <em>Les Inrockuptibles<\/em>, auf deren Website man auch <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lesinrocks.com\/musique\/musique-article\/article\/ornette-coleman-et-jacques-derrida-la-langue-de-lautre\/\">die Originalversion<\/a> nachlesen kann. (Ich erinnere mich dunkel, in der <em>Spex<\/em> damals auch einen Artikel gesehen zu haben, der wohl eine deutsche \u00dcbersetzung dieses Interviews war.)<\/p>\n<p>Das franz\u00f6sische Magazin bringt auch den Text, den Derrida einige Tage nach dem Interview w\u00e4hrend eines Konzerts von Coleman vortrug, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lesinrocks.com\/musique\/musique-article\/article\/ornette-coleman-joue-le-prenom\/\">Joue le pr\u00e9nom<\/a>. Oder besser: Vortragen <em>wollte<\/em>, denn Derridas Auftritt kam bei einem Teil des Publikums nicht besonders gut an.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In fact, it was an anticipated happening that did not happen, not quite a fiasco perhaps, but one of those unfortunate circumstances in which symbolic expectation is thwarted by reality. The audience, or at least a small part of it, intolerant of this unaccustomed form, did not even allow Derrida to get into his stride.
