Zweitausendeins vertickt ja oft einen f\u00fcrchterlichen Ramsch, und vor dem, was da zur Zeit als Joyce-Ausgabe<\/a> angeboten wird, kann man nur eindringlich warnen. Normalerweise bin ich ja sehr daf\u00fcr, dass literarische Werke so frei verf\u00fcgbar gemacht werden wie nur m\u00f6glich, aber wenn man sich das Ding hier anschaut, m\u00f6chte man beinah f\u00fcr ein ewiges Copyright zpl\u00e4dieren. Ganz sch\u00f6n frech, f\u00fcr das Machwerk auch noch mit einem Zitat von Fritz Senn<\/a> zu werben, der hat im James Joyce Quarterly<\/a> n\u00e4mlich sehr deutlich aufgez\u00e4hlt, um was f\u00fcr einen Schiffbruch es sich da handelt:<\/p>\n

The edition consists of Exiles, a volume called „Great Collection of Short Stories“ which turns out to be Dubliners, with the stories arranged in alphabetic order, from „After the Race“ to „Two Gallants“. But there is also a volume that says Dubliners on the spine: it contains „Chapters“ 9 to 12 of Finnegans Wake and is identical with Finnegans Wake, Vol. II. Ulysses is divided into three parts and seems to comprise all 18 episodes though „Eumaeus“ precedes „Circe“, probably to make the volumes of even size. Dialogue is not introduced by dashes, though the Portrait has them all right (the Dubliners stories feature quotations marks). Finnegans Wake, in three volumes (and the one duplicate that sails under „Dubliners“), offers „Chapters“ 1 – 8, 9 – 12, and 13 – 15. Missing are III.1 and II.3, the School Lessons, obviously for typographical reasons, as one could not possibly have three columns when the width of a page is not quite 7.5 cm. Paragraphs are accidental, there are hardly any italics, poetic passages are not marked, etc. […] A lot of effort and no obvious design must have gone into the concoction of a mess and an editorial disgrace.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Weil ich heute das Ding bei unserem Zweitausendeins-Laden im Schaufenster stehen sah, bin ich rein und hab es mir mal aus der N\u00e4he angeguckt. In der Version, die ich in der Hand hatte, ist der Dubliners<\/em>-Band nun nicht mehr mit Wake II<\/em> identisch, sondern mit den Short Stories<\/em>, zumindest fast, die Reihenfolge der Erz\u00e4hlungen ist n\u00e4mlich unterschiedlich. M\u00f6glicherweise wurde das Ganze ja von einem Zufallsgenerator ediert. Editorische Hinweise, geschweige denn eine Verlagsangabe, sind auch nirgendwo zu finden. Noch mehr durchzubl\u00e4ttern, war mir dann zu eklig, die B\u00e4ndchen sehen schon im neuwertigen Zustand fieser aus als eine abgelutschte Gideon-Bibel im Nachtk\u00e4stchen eines Hamburger Hafenhotels. Kein Wunder, dass das Machwerk auf der Zweitausendeins-Seite nicht abgebildet ist.<\/p>\n

Seltsam ist allerdings, dass die B\u00e4nde \u00fcberhaupt noch in den Handel gehen, der Joyce-Enkel hat eigentlich erfolgreich dagegen prozessiert<\/a>. (Die Pressemitteilung dazu enth\u00e4lt \u00fcbrigens auch den Hinweis auf die doppelten Dubliners.) Will der Verlag so die Geldstrafe abstottern? Oder kommen die B\u00fccher aus einer Konkursmasse?<\/p>\n
